MECHANISM OF ACTIONS :
Fungistatic may be fungicidal depending on
concentration impairs the synthesis of
ergosterol , which is a vital component of
fungal cell membrane .
PHARMACOKINETICS :
No systemic absorption detected at a sensitivity
level of 5 nanograms per mL in the blood over a
72-hour period following a single topical
application to the chest , back , and arms of
normal volunteers .
INDICATIONS :
Ketoconazole 2% shampoo is indicated for the
reduction of scaling due to dandruff and
treatment of Tinea (pityriasis) versicolor
caused by or presumed to be caused by
Pityrosporum orbiculare (also known as malassezia furfur or M . orbiculare ).
CONTRAINDICATIONS :
Ketoconazole 2% shampoo is contraindicated in
persons who have shown hypersensitivity to the
active ingredient or excipients of this
formulation .
ADVERSE EFFECTS :
Using of Ketoconazole 2% shampoo for the
treatment of dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis ,
can increase in normal hair loss and irritation
occurred in 1% of patients . Abnormal hair
texture , scalp pustules , mild dryness of the
skin , and itching , oiliness and dryness of
hair and scalp have been reported . |

Usage in lactation :
Ketoconazole is not detected in plasma after
chronic shampooing . Nevertheless , caution
should be exercised .

Pediatric use :
safety and effectiveness in children have not
been established
• Do not use
shampoo on the scalp that is broken or inflamed

DOSAGE :
Moisten hair and scalp thoroughly
with water . Apply sufficient shampoo to produce
enough lather to wash the scalp and hair gently
massage it over the entire scalp area for
approximately one minute .Rinse the hair
thoroughly with warm water . Repeat , leaving
the shampoo on the scalp for an additional 3
minutes .
After the second thorough rinse , dry
the hair with a towel or warm air flow . Shampoo
twice a week for four weeks with at least three
days between each shampooing and then
intermittently as needed to maintain control .
HOW SUPPLIED :
Shampoo 2% in 100 mL plastic bottles .
