MECHANISM OF ACTIONS :
An ectoparasiticide and ovicide .
Lindane exerts its parasiticidal action by being
directly absorbed into the parasites and their
ova . Following absorption through the chitinous
exoskeleton of arthropods . Lindane is presumed
to stimulate the nervous system , resulting in
convulsions and death .
PHARMACOKINETICS :
Mean peak blood level of 28 ng/mL by 6 hours .
After total body application of Lindane lotion
to scabietic of infants and children , the
half-life was determined to be 18 hours .
INDICATIONS :
Lindane lotion is indicated for treatment of
patients infested with sarcoptes scabie (
scabies ) and Lindane is indicated for the
secondary treatment of pediculosis (lice)
infestations .
CONTRAINDICATIONS :
Premature neonates , because their skin may be
more permeable than that of full-term infants
and their liver enzymes may not be sufficiently
developed , patients with known seizure
disorders , hypersensitivity to Lindane or any
component of the product . It is also
contraindicated for patients with Norwegian (
crusted ) scabies due to possible increased
absorption
DRUG INTERACTION :
Oils may enhance absorption ; therefore
simultaneous application of creams , ointments
or oils should be avoided .
ADVERSE EFFECTS :
Eczematous eruptions due to irritation ,
stimulation ranging from dizziness to
convulsions . Although these incidents were
almost always associated with accidental oral
ingestion or misuse of the product . Lindane
penetrates human skin and has the potential for
CNS toxicity . |

be poisonous if misused .
• Usage in pregnancy :
category B
• Usage in lactation :
Lindane is secreted in breast milk in low
concentrations . If therefore , use an alternate
method of feeding for 2 days .
• Usage in Children :
Lindane penetrates human skin and has the
potential for CNS toxicity . Studies indicate
that potential toxic effects of topically
applied Lindane are greater in the young .
Seizures have occurred after excessive use or
ingestion of Lindane . Do not use
prophylactically .
• Do not use it in
broken skin . |
DOSAGE :
Apply only once . Use only enough to cover the
body in a thin layer .Leave in place for 12
hours , then wash thoroughly . Reapplication is
usually unnecessary unless there are living lice
after 7 days . Treat sexual contact concurrently
.

Lotion 1% in 90 mL bottles .
