MECHANISM OF ACTIONS :
Povidone iodine , a complex with Povidone
liberates free iodine which is microbiocidal to
G+ and G- bacteria , fungi , viruses , protozoa
and yeasts . In the presence of blood , serum
and necrotic tissue its activity persists whilst
the color remains .
INDICATIONS :
For vaginitis due to Candidal , Trichomonal ,
non specific or mixed infections , and
preoperative preparation of the vagina .
CONTRAINDICATIONS :
Known or suspected iodine hypersensitivity .
Regular use is contra-indicated in patients or
users with thyroid disorders ( in particular
nodular colloid goitre , endemic goitre and
Hashimoto`s thyroiditis ) .
DRUG INTERACTIONS :
Absorption of iodine from Povidone
iodine may interfere with thyroid function
testes Contamination with Povidone iodine
of several types for the detection of occult
blood in faeces or blood in urine may produce
false – positive results
PRECAUTIONS :
If local irritation , redness or
swelling develops , discontinue treatment .
Iodine is absorbed from the vagina and following
prolonged use , thyroid dysfunction may develop
. The product is spermicidal and should not be
used when conception is desired .
