MECHANISM OF ACTIONS :
Fluoride ion becomes incorporated into and
stabilizes the apatite crystal of bone and teeth
. Fluoride acts primarily to promote
remineralization of decalcified enamel and may
interfere with growth and development of dental
plaque bacteria . Deposition of fluoride ion in
the enamel surface of teeth increases resistance
to acid and to development of caries .
PHARMACOKINETICS :
Fluorides in solution or in the form of rapidly
soluble salts are rapidly and almost completely
absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract .
INDICATIONS :
Dental caries prophylaxis .
DRUG INTERACTIONS :
Aluminium , calcium and magnesium salt may
decrease the absorption of fluoride . |

:
• Avoid use for
children aged under 6 years because they are
unable to effectively spit the rinse out after
use .
• Care should be
taken to prevent children swallowing excessive
fluoride after topical application .
• Fluoride solution
should not be used with glass since fluoride
etches glass . Therefore solution should be
directly dropped into the mouth .
• Excessive doses
of fluoride may result in fluorosis of teeth if
taken during tooth formation years .

Usage in
pregnancy and lactation : Problems in humans
have not been documented with normal recommended
dose . |
ADVERSE EFFECTS :
Recommended doses have not been shown to have
significant side effects ; only occasional white
flecks on teeth with recommended doses , rarely
yellowish – brown discoloration if recommended
doses are exceeded .
DOSAGE :
Sodium fluoride solution should be used
topically as a rinse and mouthwash .
Rinse mouth for one minute and spit out . For
maximum benefit eating , drinking or rinsing
should be avoided for at least 15-30 min after
fluoride solution application .
OVER DOSAGE :
In case of accidental ingestion and acute
poisoning , treatment includes :
Gastric lavage with lime water or a weak
solution of another calcium salt to precipitate
fluoride maintenance of high urine output , slow
intravenous injections of calcium gluconate 10%
for hypocalcemia ,tetany ,symptomatic and
systemic measures. Haemodialysis may be
considered .
HOW SUPPLIED :
Mouthwash 0.2% in 250 mL bottles .
STORAGE :
Keep the medicine from freezing and in tight
plastic container .
Store below 30º C
